Best of Truck Racks

 Updated: April 11th, 2020

When longer cargo doesn’t fit into your truck bed, your best option is to outfit your truck with a quality truck rack. You’ll gain storage space while retaining all of the functionality of your truck bed, and make it easier than ever to haul oblong cargo, such as ladders, conduit, kayaks, plywood, and more. Our Apex line of adjustable truck racks and over-cab truck racks can be modified to fit most pickups, and most do not require drilling or bolting anything directly into your truck. All come with easy installation, high weight capacities, and durable construction that is suitable for commercial use as well as the occasional run to the hardware store.

Most Popular Truck Racks

1

Apex Steel Truck Rack with Cleats

SLR-RACK-DLX
4.6
stars

With a 500-pound capacity, this steel truck rack installs easily by drilling into your truck bed and has a cleat on each post.

2

Apex Aluminum Truck Rack with Cleats

SLR-RACK-DLX-ALUM
4.7
stars

This rack is identical to the first, with the biggest differentiator being its aluminum construction. Aluminum is lighter weight than steel, yet has similar strength, and holds up well in areas with a lot of road salt or sea salt because it is less likely to corrode over time.

3

Apex No-Drill Aluminum Truck Rack with Ladder Stops

ATR-RACK
4.7
stars

This rack can support up to 800 pounds, and doesn’t require drilling to install. Instead, clamps firmly secure the rack to the inside of your truck bed. Ladder stops across the top bars make it easy to lash your items securely before transport.

4

Apex No-Drill Steel Truck Rack with Ladder Stops

STR-RACK

Our other rack with ladder stops, this option also features an 800 pound weight capacity and a similar clamp mechanism. The steel construction has a professional look and will hold up better to dents and dings than its aluminum brother.

5

Apex No-Drill Steel Truck Rack with D-Loops

STR-RACK-V2

Our other rack with ladder stops, this option also features an 800 pound weight capacity and a similar clamp mechanism. The steel construction has a professional look and will hold up better to dents and dings than its aluminum brother.

2

Apex No-Drill Aluminum Over-Cab Truck Rack

UPUT-RACK-ALUM
4.7

Also with an 800-pound weight capacity, this over-cab rack is designed with aluminum instead of steel for a lighter installation weight. The no-clamp design means it can be installed and removed without needing to drill or bolt anything into your truck bed.

Apex No-Drill Steel Over-Cab Truck Rack with D-Loops

UPUT-RACK-V3

This no-frills over-cab rack can support loads up to 1,000 pounds, and is designed for heavy-duty use. Built with powder-coated steel, it clamps directly onto the sides of your truck, and has a D-loop on each post to secure tie-down straps for transport.

Common Features Explained

Material

Material

Apex racks are constructed of steel or aluminum. Both metals have the strength needed for rack and transport applications, however, subtle differences in properties and price might place one ahead of the other for the knowledgeable consumer. Although usually powder-coated, steel has an increased risk of developing rust over time, especially in regions of the US that use road salt, or are located near a coast. Aluminum is naturally less prone to corrosion, and is lighter in weight than steel; however, it is usually higher priced.

Adjustability

Adjustability

We know how finicky it can be to meticulously measure the width of your truck bed and wonder “will this rack fit”, which is why we’ve made our truck racks adjustable! They will fit most standard trucks within average ranges (please see truck rack and over-cab rack comparison tables for more detail), so that you can select based on the features you need rather than size.

Attachment style

Attachment style

The most common way to install a truck rack usually involves drilling directly into your truck sides to firmly mount the rack. Because we know that not everyone wants to put holes into their bed, we offer most of our Apex racks with a variety of no-drill, clamp-on options that securely hook to the side of your bed and create a firm, vise-like connection.

Tie-down points

Tie-down points

We offer racks with a variety of tie-down attachment points. Ladder stops and D-loops are closed and can easily be used with S-hooks, J-hooks, and other similar tie-down strap ends. Cleats are open, and work well to secure excess slack or secure tie-down ropes or straps.
