Types of 2" Tie-Down Straps

Two-inch tie-down straps are a good choice for medium to heavy load. Here are the key differences between the main designs of tie-down straps:

  • Ratchet Straps are heavy duty, with a break strength of up to 15,000 lbs. Ideal for solid, heavy loads. Multiple end fitting options allow to you customize the strap to match your anchor point.
  • Auto Hauling Straps with Tire Blocks: These ratchet straps feature at least three rubber blocks that sit on the tire to reduce the risk of slippage. They sometimes have an idler that allows the ratchet mechanism to be operated further away from the tire.

Axle Straps

Designed to wrap around the axle of a vehicle, they create a secure anchor point to attach a ratchet strap for safe transit.

Types of Hook Ends

There are multiple hook ends available. You will find that two-inch straps tend to come with different hook end systems because they suit a range of applications:

  • Snap Hooks are flat or twisted and have a latch that snaps closed to provide a secure grip.
  • J-Hooks, or wire hooks, are used on one end of a ratchet strap to tightly grip the anchor point.
  • Flat Hooks are low profile and anchor to the rub rail of a trailer or other tie down straps.
