How long should my wheelchair ramp be?
That depends on how high your step, or steps are. For ADA compliance, there should be one foot of ramp for every inch of height (also called rise). For more information, read How to Determine Wheelchair Ramp Length.
Are modular ramps permanent?
Modular ramps are considered to be semi-permanent. They provide all the benefits of a permanent structure, such as a concrete ramp, however they do not alter your property and can be removed if needed due to how they’re constructed.
Can I move a modular ramp later?
Yes, modular ramps are designed to be easy to move and reconfigure because they are usually bolted together rather than permanently installed with concrete. The term “modular” is used to illustrate that the pieces can be used in multiple layouts.
Do modular ramps require concrete?
Unlike a deck, modular ramps do not require concrete footings. They are engineered to be surface mounted, which also means they don’t typically require permits for installation.
How much weight can a modular ramp hold?
Due to their longer length, modular ramps are usually rated for up to 1,000 lbs. with the understanding that multiple people may be using the ramp at one time with their mobility device(s). Confirm with us if the weight capacity is unclear or you have questions.
Can I install it myself?
Modular ramps are designed to be installable by the purchaser (or their friends/family), however some customers prefer to pay to have a professional install the ramp for them.
How long does installation take?
Installation times vary; it depends on what ramp length and model you purchased, and how easy the assembly is on that model. Some ramp section might require bolting together, some might slip into brackets. It really depends on the ramp.
Are handrails included?
Typically, the longer length of modular ramps necessities that handrails be included for safety. If you have any questions about whether or not a ramp comes with handrails, please call us and we would be happy to find that answer for you.
