Never exceed the maximum rated weight capacity of the wheelchair carrier. Most Class III hitches are rated for 500 lbs. Most Class IV hitches are rated for 1,000 lbs. Hitch-mounted bike carriers are not recommended for use on tow-behind trailers including 5th wheel and camping trailers, motor-homes or RVs. Never exceed the lowest maximum rating of either of these two: vehicle's tongue weight and vehicle's trailer hitch tongue weight. Be aware that your hauling weight may be limited by your vehicle's suspension. Some vehicles may require air shocks or heavier springs to stiffen up the suspension and prevent sagging.
