ADA Guidelines
While modular ramp systems installed at a private residence aren’t required to meet ADA specifications, it is important to follow the instruction manual and all guidelines to ensure a safe and useable wheelchair ramp.
- Every 1” of vertical rise requires 1’ of ramp length
- Handrails are required on ramps with a rise of 6” or more
- Ramps should be a minimum of 36” wide
- A level landing is necessary at the accessible door
- Landings subject to wet conditions shall be designed to prevent the accumulation of water
For detailed descriptions and additional ADA guidelines for building a modular ramp system, read our article on ADA building codes for wheelchair ramps.
